SUBJECT: Meeting of July 13, 1987
It has been determined that the Parks and Recreation Commission
should continue with the update of the Trails and Pathways Master
Plan. What this Commission does will be included in the General
Plan update that will be done by the Planning Commission. They
will be needing this Commission's input within approximately one
year which will give us time to put together the information we
need to make recommendations.
Joan will give a report on the results of the recreation survey.
Please let Sharon know if you will be unable to attend the
meeting.

The most frequently mentioned teen progrG?m additions were dances
and parties, after school drop-in center, and music or concerts.
The most frequently, cl?eck:ed improvement to city parkas 4aas

most requested improvement at every earl::. Several respondents (~~~~)

relating to problems with dogs in parkas aaere frequent. 1't is clear
that this issue evokes strong opinions on both sides. El L?uito park:,
LtJildwaod park: and k::evin 1"loran park: had the most comments on this
subject, but all the parF::s were mentioned.
Fiestrooms at the city parkas was the ne>;t mast frequently
requested improvement (~48) , speci f i cal 1 y at F::evi n t'loran and El. G!ui to
parkas. Tennis and spare courts (161), telephones (ir9), e:;ercise
courses (148), playground equipment (146), and picnic facilities (14~~)
all received similar requests. -
E~esides designated dog-walk:ing areas, the top votes for each park:
were E1 G!uita -- restrooms, Hrook:glen - playground equipment,
Wildwood - parking, Foothill - restrooms, Congress Spr-ings
tennisfsports courts, k::evin l~loran - restrooms„ and Gardiner
restrooms. lalildwood park: was used most by the respondents and
Congress Springs was ne:;t.

facilities. hie:;t was picnic facilities and then playing fields.
pespondents mentioned several times that there is a need for better
playground equipment, especially for small children.

There were many comments on a wide variety of topics. The most
common was one e.;pressing sC?tisfaction with the job being done by the
Community Center and city pcKrk:s (fiCr) . I~e.;t was comments that
residents were unf amt 1 i ar wi. th the parkas and their 1 ocati ons { 6) .
Several people e;;pressed a desire to protect open and quiet space and
create a green belt area ('.~6). There was ~" remark:s about the need
tar better policing of parkas due to pC?r-ties, drinking, artd drug
problems, especially at night. f~eq~aests to strictly enforce all
regulations regarding dogs in parkas came from :LY respondents. Hiking
andfor walking trails were requested by 11 respondents.

SUBJECT: Meeting of June 1, 1987
We should have the new trail maps available for review at
tonight's meeting. Stan Thompson, who volunteered to color code
the maps at our May 4th meeting, expects to have them ready by
then. We will also review plans for the new Hakone parking lot
addition. The Saratoga Community Garden is requesting that the
Parks and Recreation Commission consider utilizing an undeveloped
city-owned site for their program use.
The City Attorney is in the process of drafting an ordinance
prohibiting skateboarding in the parking lot and tennis courts at
Congress Springs Park.
