SUBJECT: MEETING OF MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 1991
I.D. The Commissioners should be prepared to specify
which months they would prefer to attend Council
meetings.
II.A. As this item was not discussed at the previous
meeting as planned, staff would like the
Commissioners to suggest projects to be funded
with CDBG monies for fiscal year 1991/92.
III.A. Attached is a proposed Heritage Tree Program for
your review and comments.
B. Attached is information on the upcoming California
Pacific Southwest Recreation & Park Conference.
Please advise staff of your intention to attend.
Please let Marlene know if you will be unable to attend this

order at 7:05 p.m.

III _ Committee Re~,torts
A. Outdoor Adventure: Anna Wang informed the commission about the
'committee's plans of having a teen trip to Yosemite sometime
between March and May of next year.
B. Merchants Program
Colleen Noonan talked about the committee`s goal of having a
Holiday teen job referral for the months of January and February.
If it is successful, the committee will plan a job fair in the
.spring, possibly at Wildwood Park. Flyers for publicity were
distributed to each commissioner.
C. Teen Dances
The committee will be planning a Jr. High dance in the community
center for some time in late January on a Saturday. The
commissioners discussed the type of D.J. they wanted and other
possible activities during the dance.
D. Recreation
Donna Miller, the adult advisor for the recreation committee,
talked about the committee's plans of having 2 or 3 trips during
the school year to various places.

E. Arts.
The Arts Committee informed the commission about the teen art
window display, which will be at Cherry's on Nov.. 23 during
Saratoga"s open house from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Several commissioners
volunteered to watch over the art, if the building will be opened
that day.
F. Music:
Vanessa talked about having two bands play every month at
Wildwood Park or the community center. She suggested getting
bands from different schools to get a wider variety of types of
music.

A. Skateboard ramp: Chip Yamada updated the commission about the
skateboard ramp. He talked about the expenses, supervision, its
future location in the parking lot by City Hall, and the council
meeting of November 27. Christine Loretz passed around copies
of a letter printed in the Saratoga News. She discussed
possibile risks involved and explained why the skateboard ramp
.would not be worth the money that would be spent. Cristina
Armijo and Chris Kummerer discussed hiring a young supervisor
and restricting the ramp to Saratoga residents several days a
week. The vote was 12 commissioners in favor of the skateboard
ramp and 2 against.
B. Warner Hutton House: Renee Kuo brought up the issue of whether
the Warner Hutton House should be used by teens as a drop-in
center. Joan Pisani gave some background information on recent
decisions regarding the house. Chris Kummerer explained that it
should be one of the Youth Commission's major projects for the
year. The vote was unanimously in favor of using the Warner
Hutton House as a teen center. The commissioners wrote a letter
to the City Council and plan on speaking in favor of the teen
center and ideas for its usage at the City Council meeting on
November 27th at 7:30 p.m.
