SARATOGA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
TIME: MONDAY, MAY 4, 1992 - 7:30 P.M.

I. ORGANIZATION
A. ROLL CALL - Present: Crotty, Franklin, Gilman
Miller, Pierce, Swan, Ward
Hakone Garden Committee:
Don Miller, Gladys Armstrong,
Kay Duffy, Jack Tomlinson,
Bruce Parkinson, Bob Rizzo
Staff: Trinidad, Rizzo, Tate, Tucker
B. MINUTES - Approval of Minutes of 3/2/92 with change III.D.
C. POSTING OF THE AGENDA
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda for this meeting
was properly posted on 4/29/92.
II. A. The Commissioners discussed serving on the Library Expansion
Committee. The consensus was that the meeting day and time was
extremely inconvenient for all. Ann Marie Gilman and Donna
Miller could attend on Mondays if meetings were from 3:00 to
5:00. If meeting was not first Monday, then other Commissioners
would also be able to attend.
II. B. The Hakone Foundation Garden Committee was in attendance as above
to provide the Commissioners with an overview of their recent
activities. Individual members gave informative presentations
on the following topics:

• Pedestrian Entrance
• Bonsai Collection
• Master Plan - Gift Shop, Parking

• Koi Club Maintaining/Upgrading Pond
• Access for Handicapped/Wheelchair Lift/Toilets
• Tour of Cultural Exchange Center Building
III. B. Montalvo Road/Hill Avenue six-lot subdivision was approved
without special stipulations as was recommended by staff.
C. Decision of abandonment of pedestrian/equestrian trail in Tract
#7770 was delayed until more information could be obtained from
user groups and from the Trails Master Plan. Crotty/Franklin
IV. A. Recreation Department representative, Beverly Tucker, informed
the Commission of the following:
1) Hakone Festival
2} Basketball League - 36 successful teams
3) Rollerblading vs. Skateboarding
Youth Commission representative to report at next meeting
4) Adult Softball Leagues
5) Summer programs
V. A. Secretary Trinidad brought the Commissioners up to date on some
future meeting topics:
1) Skateboard/Rollerblade Facility for youth of Saratoga
2} Architect Ideas for Improvements at Wildwood
3) Ravenwood Park area Workshop
