Action Minutes
Library Commission
October 24, 1990
A meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday
evening, October 24, 1990. Following is a summary of the
action taken.
I. Roll Call
Commissioners present: Brenner, Krezek, Mills,
Peacock, Watkins, Wood
Commissioners absent: Newby (excused)
II. Report on Posting of Commission Agenda
The agenda was posted an October 17, 1990.
III. Approval of Minutes
The September 26, 1990, minutes were approved
as written.
IV. old Business
Lois Tharnas Memorial - Council Response to Request
for Matching Funds
Fallowing discussion, consensus was to wait
to pursue this until after Council has taken
action on the adoption of a possible policy
for City contributions to memorials.
V. New Business
A. November-December Meeting Schedule
it was agreed the hold the sheduled November
28 meeting and cancel the December meeting.
B. Discussion of October 9 Joint Meeting with
Council and October 16 Study Session
Commissioners reviewed the Council's response
to Chair David Newby's presentation on the
status of the Commission's study of library
service needs. Deputy County Librarian Janice
Yee said that adding 12,000 sq.ft. to the
library, bringing the total to 30,000 sq.ft.,
would be the optimum choice. Commissioners
also recapped the discussion at the Octob!!x'
16 study session and developed a course of
action.
C. Development of Public Awareness Campaign
1. Ground Rules 2. Timeframe 3. Teams
Three teams were formed to begin working
concurrently. The teams will report back on
the status of their efforts in November. The
teams will research and develop suggested
action plans in their areas but will take no
action prior to agreement by the Commission
as a whole. Library staff will be utilized as
a resource.

VI. Reports
Report on October City Council Me~tin~ - Barbara
Wood
Barbara reported on the October 27 meeting and the
Council discussion of the use of the old Library
building by VITA and the Friends of the Library.
Janice Yee, County Library
Commissioner Brenner left the meeting early and
Janice reported on the County Library Commission
Meeting which he had attended. The County is
presenting options to the Board of Supervisors on
how to handle the R-rated videos in the libraries.
Dolly Barnes, Community Library Supervisor
Dolly was not present due to illnes. No report.
Carolyn King, .City Staff Representative
No report.
Barbara. Peacock, Vice-Chair
No report.
