Library Commission
February 28, 1990
A meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday
evening, February 28, 1990. Following is a summary of the
action taken.
I. Roll Call
Commissioners present: Dyer, Kresek, Mills,
Newby, Peacock, Wood
Commissioners absent: Moloney
II. deport on Posting of Commission Acxenda
The agenda was posted on February 20, 1990.
III. Approval of Minutes
The January 24, 1990, minutes were approved as
written.
IV. Old Business
A. Parking Lot Book-d.rop - Carolyn King
Commissioners reviewed the City Engineering
Department response concerning possible
location of a free-standing book drop in the
library parking lot. ComBissioner Dyer
summed up the discussion as ^what you gain in
bananas, you lose in peaches,^ and no action
was taken.
B. Review of 1989 Activities and Plans for 1990,
Preparation for April 10 Meeting with
Council
There was no discussion of this item.
C. Proposed Schedule for Attendance at City
Council Meetings
The proposed schedule was accepted.
V. New Business
A. Vicki Kaleikau, Program Librarian
Demonstration of New Magazine Collection
Microfilm Reader-printer
Vicki Kaleikau explained how to operate the
computerized system which the library has
recently acquired. Thus far library patrons
seen to be able to operate the equipment
without difficulty.

Susan Fuller. County Librarian
In Susan Fuller's absence, Janice Yee represented
the County. Janice distributed a bookmobile
schedule and reported that 1) revenue from rising
property taxes will allow the County system to
add hours and staff at various libraries this
year, 2) there was a big jump in circulation
system-wide in January, and 3) they are looking
forward to the acquisition of an on-line
catalog.
Dolly Barnes, Communitk Library Supervisor
In Dolly Barnes' absence, Vicky Kaleikau reported
on the reception held 1/29 for volunteers, staff
and members of the Friends who helped with the
reshelving after installation of the carpeting.
Carolyn Ring, City Staff Representative
Carolyn King introduced Frances Kresek as the
new Commission member, and outlined the orienta-
tion process for new members.
Patrick Moloney, Commissionmember
Patrick Moloney will report on his attendance at
the February 21 Council meeting next month.
Barbara Wood, Chair
Barbara Wood spoke on her continuing pursuit of
old Saratoga newspapers, and reminded the
Commission of the Ca1Tac workshop on 3/3.
VII. Oral and Written Communications
Barbara Wood noted the presence of. Roberta Gies
who attended the meeting as the Friends of the
Library representative, and Mary Gandrud, former
Commission member.
She also read a letter from Susan Fuller to Paul
Sagers, Director of the County General Services
Agency, commending individuals who made
possible the reopening of the library on time.
