Action Minutes
Library Commission
January 24, 1990
A meeting of the Library Commission was held Wednesday
evening, January 24, 2990. Following is a summary of the
action taken.
I. Roll Call
Commissioners present: Dyer, Mills, Moloney,
Newby, Wood
Commissioners absent: Peacock
II. ReDOrt on Posting of Commission Agenda
The agenda was posted on January 16, 1990.
III. ~F~roval of Minutes
The December 13, 1989, minutes were approved as
written.
IV. Old Business
A. Wish List - Continued
There were no further additions.
V. New Business
A. °Getting the Work Done° - Joan Zedler
Services supervisor
The speaker was unable to attend and this
item will be scheduled for another meeting.
VI. Reports
Susan Fuller County Librarian
Susan Fuller distributed a copy of the Bookmobile
schedule and copies for each Commissioner of the
Santa Clara County Library Profile and Projections
1990-1995.
Dolly Barnes Community Library Supervisor
Dolly Barnes discussed the efforts of staff and
volunteers in restocking all. the books and the
changes which had been made during installation of
the new shelving and carpeting. She escorted the
Commissioners on a tour of the Library to point
out the changes and new equipment. Dolly also
thanked the City for their help by offering use of
City meeting rooms to groups which were displaced
from the Community Room while the Library was
closed.

Carolyn Ring reminded the Commission of the
scheduled joint meeting with City Council on April
10 and suggested that they begin thinking of their
goals and priorities for discussion with the
Council. Carolyn also discussed the process which
Council would follow leading to appointment of a
new Commissioner to fill the vacancy caused by
Barrett Moore's resignation.
Dick Dyer, Commissionmembe~
Dick Dyer reported. on his attendance at the
January 17 Council meeting and the public hearing
on the Cocciardi matter. The schedule for future
Council attendance was discussed- Moloney,
February, and Mills, March.
Barbara Wood, Chair
Barbara Wood suggested that City staff be
requested to do a traffic study of the Library
parking lot to see what the impact of a drive-up
book drop would be. There was considerable
discussion of the pros and cons of this type of
book drop, and consensus was reached to request a
study by the City Engineering Department.
Barbara also reminded the Commission that i) new
officers would be chosen at the February meeting,
and 2) there was a CalTac workshop in Fremont on
March 3.

Barbara Wood noted the presence of Roberta Gies
who attended the meeting as the Friends of the
Library representative.
