Committee for Community Interaction - Be•aerly and Anna Warm; .attended the meeting; Beverly suggested entire commission attend their next meeting en masse (April 10, 1993, 7:00 p.m.), or ask that the committee formally present their ideas to the Youth Commission at our next meeting B. CASA report - ,Joan Pisani attended the meetirfg, said NASA is excited about our trips ~Yy ~[~ A. Merchants: Facilitator Julie Ness met with committee prior to Commission meeting; discussed .Tab binder; Beverly ;suggested students putting resumes in tree binder for employers to look at; they also discussed Job Fair; having a newsletter (???}, would bring more publicity, should contact Annie Yang, Lynbrook, currently the "reporter" on Youth Commissior~ events for The Saratoga. April 13, 6:00 p.m. next meeting B. Music Committee: Chairperson Armijo absent C. Outdoor Adventure: Yosemite trip itinerary ar~d rule=~ will be set March 16, 6:00 p.m.; because of problems with. Yosemite, now we only have tent cabins instead of wood r_abins, but price will be lower than $99 as a result; Beverly suggested using tents at the campgrounds, Commission voted against it, will stay with tent cabins D. Fundraising: did not have .a meeting E. Public relations: did not have a meeting F. Teen Dance: next dance April 12; theme is "Rairfd.ance" Fran 1 Anderson, head of Chamber of Commerce will loam us patio umbrellas to hang from the metal hanks in the Multipurpose room that was used before for stage lights; Kuo has a mylar cizrt,ain we can use far the doorway r}r something else as decoration; idea came up as to filling large balloons with glitter and trfen pap thenm sometime during the dance as to mimic rain; deejays, kids at Redwood suggested KMEL, 99.7 and some others; Beverly will check prices C. Teen Recreation: working on Lock-Ire, set tr} be on March 21; Y.C. chaperones? time set 8 p.m - 8 a.m., indror hockey, arts & r_•rafts, ice cream sundaes, will sell the ur~userl t-shirts from Music Felt to tie-dye/decorate; teen dating game? H. Warner Hutton House: Soderman told of having numerous meetings in coming up with the furnishings for the Warner Hutt~m House; carpet has been selected that is in accordance with tree Victorian mature of the house; carpet has lO year warranty, dark colored, stairs resistant Hospitality grade (used in hotels/restaur,ants so it should be durable); letter written to Rotary Club asking for donation of large screen television; Rotary will paint the exterior of W.H.House for us; for interior, suggestion of Y.C. painting; Y.C. voted 11-1 in favor, G people abstaining; first staff for W.H.House hired, Shane Kibble; have to hire 5 more staff members; Kibble 19 years old, majoring iri Recreation, student at West Valley, likes roller binding, hiking; may be a big help orz Outdoor Adventure committee, discussed renovating second level of W.H.House when we have $$ sa we can utilize the space (fire hazard presently because only one exit) also non-weight bearing floor; also, a small van wrn.zlrl be beneficial far transportation for local trips of only lO or 12 people; plus, van could be painted with Y.C. logy of some kind and users as source of publicity J. Joint meeting with City Council: May 26, 1992 K. Recreation Dept. Update: Beverly asked far suggestions of classes to be held at W.H. House; Caokir~g while in college ("Avail the Freshman 15"}, surfing, scuba diving, ceramics, auto Repair, jewelry making, Benecia trip (skateboarding}, river rafting, rock climbing, Santa Cruz trip (30 cent hot lags, rides, every- thing 39 cents on certain nights), college touring trip, go to iJCLA, UCSD, some private colleges, etc., take a van to concerts (10-12 people) like Lollapoooza, job fair, trip to Oregon, Washington; Beverly also told details of Disneyland trip: ~~ breaklfasts, bus, supervisir}n, tip/tax of hotel (3 star hotel, Conestoga Hotel), almissionweeks local trips ~.__ ~d j ourn ment Meeting adjourned at 8:19 p.m. Submitted by: Anna Wang 2
