ADJOURNMENT • -- _~ i- >l s>s~, - ,:on • ~l'Y OF SARATOG~ 13777 FRUITVALE AVENUE - SARATOGA, CALIFORNIA 95Q70 (408) 867-3438 ~1~~~~3~~1D~~ TO: Parks & Recreation Commission FROM: Barbara Sampson SUBJECT: November 18th Agenda DATE: November 13, 1974 I feel the Commission has clarified what you want in the Subdivision Ordinance, with the exception of the fee structure. If staff is able to complete a suggest- ed fee structure it will be presented to you Monday night. Further time is required to investigate the aspects of a possible resale fee so it will be on the agenda for your first meeting in December. I have reserved the majority of the meeting for bond issue discussion. Although • it has not been discussed recently, you may want to consider the potential of the 5 acre Nelson Property. The Action Plan for park development shows a development concept of a conservatory and nature park. It will be necessary at this meeting for the Commission to determine a method for obtaining donations of plants and a schedule for accepting donations and planting for Brookglen Park. Several homeowners have expressed an interest in having planting done as soon as possible. I would like you to consider the idea of preparing an information sheet to distribute to residents showing what plants are to be purchased approximate cost, and the method they may use. It has been suggested that we allow pledges to be made now and actual funds to come in later, as well as direct donations now. We may be able to reproduce a copy of the actual planting plan to distribute also. I feel it is imperative that all monies be donated to the City and we purchase the actual items when it is time to plant. Not only can we purchase plants wholesale, at bid prices, but we will be able to select the quality we want. The Prides Crossing Homeowners Association has agreed to include a special flyer about the donations and planting i,n their next newsletter which will go out in December. If we are able to do the same thing with the Brookview Homeowners Association every resident in the area would receive the information. City staff would prepare the flyer and the City will provide copies needed. If this is sent out in December and donations or pledges are accepted in January and Februarys pie may be able to do all the planting in March, so a • date should be set as a deadline for donations and paid pledges. We might also set a tentative date for, planting, pending weather of course. This method would still allow individuals or families to purchase a specific tree ®: • • Parks & Recreation Commission • November 13, L974 Page 2 or plant. A master chart could be kept as donations are submitted. We could also plan to display the master plan and chart at both Hansen and Brookview Schools for at least a week, in order to promote the idea and provide residents an opportunity to see what is still open for donation. The information about the Midpeninsula Regional Park District has been pro- vided for you by Kay Duffy. If any of you would be interested and available to attend the workshop on Park Development costs, I will be glad to make reservations. There is no fee or meals but they would like to know how many will be attending.
