CATION FO~ AZA~BOI~B~T BY THE SOUTRERN PACIFIC
F,/H,~,,E~, on the 13th day of Ikrch, 1963, ~e Interstate Connerce
~ssiou, in Finance Docket ~o. 22009, denied the application o~ the
Southern Pacific Campany to ateaden a portion of its Vasona Branch Line
of railroad in Santa Clara County; and
kqtERFAS, said decision denyin~ the right to abandon said line will
seriously disrupt the Expressway ProSram of the County of Santa Clara in
that the Foothill Expressway was planned to be constructed over the riSht
of way of railroad line souSht to be abandoned; and
~gaS, if said decision is allowed to stand, the increased costs
of the Foothill Expressway will he so Sreat and insurmountable that this
protion of the Expressway ProSram will likely have to be abandoned; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary and essential to the future development o~
the County of Santa CLara that the Foothill Expressway be Constructed as
oriSiually planned; and
~ERFAS, this City is a ~r of the Trafficways Committee, and has
endorsed and-supported the Expressway ProSram that has been approved by
the voters of Santa Clara County; and
~[EREAS, this City would Like to So on record before the Interstate
Commrce Commission of requesting that a rehesrtnS be granted and that
upon rehearin~ the application of the Southern Pacific Company be approved
as oriSiually requested.
NO~, THEREFORE, IT I$ HEREBY RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this
Resolution be filed with Nr. Harold D. BcCoy, Secretary o£ the Interstate
Commerce Ccmatssion~ WashinZton 25s D. C., in order that it be a matter
of record that this City Council requests a rehearinS in the application
of the Southern Pacific Company for its abando_n._~_ut of a portion of its
Vasona Line Branch, and further that this City Council hereby requests
that the Interstate Commerce Censdssiun reverse its decision to allow
the abandonment as requested.
