A RESOLdION MQUESTiNG ALLOCATION OF FUNDS
FOR=..~ EXTENSION PROJE!CT...ON .SARATOGA AVE.
WHEREAS, there is in the City of Saratoga (hereinafter called
"City") a large volume of vehicular traffic between the San Jose-
Santa Clara area and Fruitvale Avenue which has steadily been in-
creasing at a rapid rate; and
WHEREAS, in the interest of public health, safety and welfare
it is essential that the widening and improvement of Saratoga Ave.
frce Kosich Drive to Fruitvale Ave. be accomplished; and
WHEREAS, Saratoga Ave. is within City and part of the Federal-
aid Secondary Route No. 995, and in the opinion of City the widening
and improvement of said Avenue between Kosich Dr. and Fruitvale Ave.
would qualify as an extension of said Federal-aid Secondary project;
and
WHEREAS, City desires to file with the Highway Commission of
the State of California pursuant to Sec. 143.3 of Streets and Highways
Code (relating to financing of Federal-aid Secondary Urban Extension
Projects) a request for an allocation of funds to construct said
extens ion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by City as follows:
That City does hereby request California Highway Commission to
allocate sufficient funds pursuant to Section 143.3 of Streets and
Highways Code for the widening and improvement of Saratoga Ave. between
Kosich Dr. and Fruitvale Ave. as an urban extension of Federal-aid
Secondary Project No. 995. That City does further request the com-
mission to allocate for the fiscal year ending 1965 a sum of $170,000;
That City agrees that its budget account shall reflect the
following contribution to said extension:
FY 1965 - City of Saratoga Local Improvement
District Funds $124,000.
FY 1965 - City of Saratoga ~]on-Expressway
Funds 46,000.
That City has considered the effect of the proposed financing
in relation to the statutory formula contained in Sec. 188.4 of the
streets and I-liqhway-~ coda ~Fpertaining .~-c apportionment of State High~
way construction monies among' the counties.
That City shall acquire sufficient right of way to assure com-
pletion of all stages of the ultin~te facility, or that the necessary
rights of way will be acquired or satisfacto~.~ily protected before
advertisement of the project for bids.
That City shall be the legal administrative agent for the ex-
tension project but that all funds for the construction of said
project shall be accumulated and released through the State Highway
Department Cooperative Projects Office~
That the "Project Report and Program on Major City Street in
Santa Clara County between Kosich Drive and Fruitvale Avenue
Length 1.66 Miles," dated May 2, 1963. is incorporated herein by
reference marked Exhibit "A" and made a part hereof.
