RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUi, K~IL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA
REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR
BUREAU OF LAND MANAG~"~ENT NC[ TO DISPOSE OF AN~ PUBLIC
DOMAIN LANDS WI%}IIN SANTA CLARA COUNTY UNTIL ADEQUATE
PLANS HAVE BEEN FORMULATED
WHEREAS, the Classification and Multiple Use Act of the Eighty-eighth
C~ongress gives the Secretary of the Interior authority .to classify public
land for retention and management, and authorizes the Secretary of the
Interior to formulate regulations and criteria under which ~ublic land
might be classified either for retention and management or fgr disposal
under the various land laws | and
WIIEREAS, the Bureau of Lend Management is currently commencing a
classification study for the SoUth Bay Plannin~ Unit of the Diablo Region,
~,hich includes Santa Clara County; and
! %~IEREAS, there are approximately eighty-one hundred (8100) acres of
land in the public domain within Santa Clara County subject Co the provisions
of the "Classification and Multiple Use Acts; and
HHEREAS, much of the land now under public domain consists of many
separated parcels; and
~EREAS~ the City of S~ratoga believes cha~ one of the prime uses for
these public domain lands would be for retention and management as a part
of an overall open space and recreational program properly integrated ~i~h
State and local aSencies~ plans for recreational purposes; and
~HEREAS, retention and management of these public domain lands on an
assembled basis would be of si~nificant benefit as a semi-~tlderness area
close to a major metropolitan area of approximately one-million people;
N(K4, THEREFORE~ be it resolved by this Cl~y Council of ~be Ci=y
SaraCoga~ County of'Santa C~ara~ SCats of California~ that the United
States Depar=ment of Interior Bureau of Land Management be requested
withhold disposal of any public domain lands within the County of Santa
Clara until such time as a cooperate planning and classification effort
is completed involvLn~ the United S~a~es Government, the State of Cali~ornia~
the County of Santa Clara, and the various cities in ~he County of Santa
Clara$
BE 1T FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution shall be sent
to all affected State and Federal governmental agencies and legislators.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Saratoga on
July 6, 1966s by the following vote:
