A P~ESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF .qARATOGA
ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE REQUEST OF THE TO~I OF LOS
GATOS FOR CONSIDERATION OF ALTERNATIVE ROUTE FOR STATE
HIG~4AY NO. 17.
WHEREAS, preliminary planning studies revealed to the Los Gato~
To~m Council by the SLate Division of Highways on July 30. 1969 indicate
that Route 17 freeway would probably call for widening within the existing
corridor within that Town"s limits; and
WHEREAS, the Los Gatos Tm,m Council feels that 'any widening or expansion
of the capacity of this freeway in the existing corridor could have damaging
effects upon the Town of Los Gatos and to the existing developments along the
present route of Route 17 between Los Gatos and Scotts Valley; and
WHEREAS, it appears that an alternative corridor for this freeway to
the south and east might better serve traffic from the Bay Area and Santa
Clara Valley to the coast with destinations southerly of the City of Santa
Cruz:
NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Saratoga that this Council endorses and supports the request of the
of Los Gatos to the State Division of Highways, that thorough and serious
study be given to traffic needs, traffic volumes, costs, effects on existing
communities, and all other pertinent aspects of one or more alternative
corridors southeasterly of Los Gatos before proceeding further with develop~
meat of studies for expansion of the highway within the existing corridor.
The above and foregoins resolution was duly and regularly introduced
and passed by the City Council of the City of Saratoga at a regular meeting
held on the 1st day of October, 1969, by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen Smit~ Dwyer, Sanders~ Tyler
NOES: None
ABSEN~: Councilman Robbins
