HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 566 RESOLUTION NO. 566 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SARATOGA DESIGNATING THE WEEKS OF APRIL 12 - 25 AS FAIR HOUSING WEEKS WHEREAS, State and Federal statutes clearly state that discrimination in sales and rentals of housing is illegal w'hen based on race, creed, color, or national origin; and WHEREAS, it is essential to focus cor~nunity attention on the enforce- ment of these laws; and WHEREAS, t'he Stanford Mid-peninsula Urban coalition, in cooperation with the National Committee against Discrimination in Housing and the Department of HUD, is coordinating efforts of local citizen's groups and conmunity agencies throughout the Bay area in a multi- media campaign, and WHEREAS, this campaign will be called Operation Sentinel and will be geared toward fighting discrimination in 'housing and informing the public at large about the law, and about the recourse available, and WHEREAS~ it is essential that all citizens understand their rights and obligations under these laws; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA designated April 12 to 25 Fair Housing weeks and urges all citizens and orgamizations to alert themselves to the need for fair and open housing and cooperation in developing programs of positive involvement. The above and forgoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and passed by the City Council of the City of Saratoga on the 7th day of April, 1971, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Bridges, Dwyer, Smith and Robbins NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Sanders ~~ ~ MAYOR ATTEST:
