HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 604 RESOLUTION NO. 604 RESOLUTION URGING IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION OF STANDARDS OF MERCURY CONTAMINATION WHEREAS, the Food and Drug Administration of the United States has adopted a guideline o£ .5 part per million of mercury for finding contamination o£ fish intended for human consumption, which finding is based on data which may be in- adequate thereto; and WHEREAS, said guideline is, for lack of any other, the basis of decisions and rulings by other bodies including the Departments of Public Health and of Fish and Game of the State of California; and WHEREAS, the City of Saraeoga is a public agency concerned to serve the public in the provision of, among other things, recreational lakes and streams stocked with fish which may be eaten with absolute safety; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City of Saratoga that it shall be and it is hereby most strongly urged upon the Food and Drug Administration of the United States that an early and thorough review and investigation be undertaken of the matter of safe mercury levels in the flesh of fish intended for human consumption to the end that any guideline adopted upon such basis shall have the entire confi- dence o£ those affected thereby and shall not be subject to a charge that inves- tigation has b~en in.~dequate and the contamination level adopted unreal.istic; and PASSED AND ADOPTED, by the City Council of the City of Saratoga at its meeting on the 16th day of February, 1972, by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: ~ ~ ~ ATTE ST: MAYOR
