RESOLUTION DECLARING SEPTEMBER 7, 1972
AS A DAY OF MOURNING
FOR THE TRAGEDY WHICH OCCURRED
AT THE TWENTIETH OLYMPIAD
WHEREAS, THE CITIZENS OF THIS NATION, this state, this county and
especially the City of Saratoga, are saddened and disheartened by the tragic
events of murder and injury, both morally and physically, to the eleven
Olympic representatives of Israe~l and the German policeman on September 5, 1972,
at the site of the Twentieth Olympiad in Munich, Germany, and
WHEREAS, on behalf of all our citizens, the City Council expresses
love and sympathy to the families, relatives and friends of those persons
killed or injured during this sorrowful occasion, and
WHEREAS, the Citizens of Saratoga, through their City Council, do
actively support the goals and purposes of the Olympic Games in promoting
international sportsmanship, brotherhood and peace by providing new horizens
of understanding among all men and nations,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Saratoga does hereby declare and proclaim that Thursday, September 7, 1972,
be a Day of Mourning in condolence and sympathy for all those fellow human
beings who have lost their lives or been injured because of this tragedy.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted a regular
meeting of the City Council on the 6th day of September, 1972, by the
following vote:
