HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 665 RESOLUTION NO. 665 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA ENDORSING AB 920 AND AB 921 WHEREAS, the current demand for funding for much needed park and open space lands is well-documented, and there is no source of monies for local government projects beyond the already over-burdened property tax; and WHEREAS, AB 920 would provide such funds to local government on a regular basis, allowing for long-term planning through orderly acquisition programs by means of a 1% real estate transfer tax which does not apply to owner-occupied residences; and WHEREAS, cities now have the power to condemn lands for parks, but not for open space uses, while, at the same time, they are required to plan and zone for open space; and WHEREAS, AB 921 authorizes cities to condemn lands for open space uses when such lands are designated as open space on local master plans; and WHEREAS, both AB 920 and AB 921 would give local government the power and wherewithal to fulfill state-mandated planning requirements, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga does hereby go on record as heartily endorsing AB 920 and AB 921 and urges the Governor and the Legislature of the State of California to enact this legislation as rapidly as possible. The above and foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Saratoga at a regular meeting held on the 3rd day of July, 1973, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Smith, Dwyer, Bridges, Diridon and Kraus NeE S: None ABSENT: None .....
