A Resolution of the City Council of
the City of Saratoga Commending
Joseph P. Long, Sr.
WHEREAS, Joseph P. Long, Sr. has recently completed twenty-five
years of service as a Fire Commissioner for the Saratoga Fire District,
which includes twenty years of continuous service as Chairman of the
Board of Fire Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Long has presided over the growth of the
District from a fledgling organization which originally occupied small
rental garage facilities, to one which has taken over a large building
and boasts a full complement of ten employees and forty-two volunteer
fireman~ and
WHEREAS, Mr. Long has been instrumental in effecting the purchase
of six new pieces of emergency equipment, instituting an Explorer Post
affiliate to the District in 1960, and overseeing the upgrading of the
Fire District to an Insurance Services Organization class rating of 4; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure the Board of Fire Commissioners has
been successful in adhering to its original philosophy of keeping' the
tax rate to a minimum while maintaining an essential and effective fire-
fighting force equipped with the most modern equipmlnt on the market;
NOW, THERE tORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City
of Saratoga does hereby commend Joseph P. Long, Sr. for his contributions
to the community and to the Saratoga Fire District, and hopes that he will
continue to provide the same consistent force on the Board of Fire
Commissioners in the future as he has in the past.
The above and foregoing resolution was adopted by the City Council
of the City of Saratoga at a regular meeting held on the 5th day of
January, 1977, by the following vote:
