HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 836 Resolution No. 836 A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Saratoga Requesting the County Superintendent of Schools to Provide for the Consolidation of the 1978 General Municipal Election with the West Valley Joint Community College District Governing Board Election to be Held March 7, 1978 WHEREAS, the City Council (hereinafter sometimes called the "Council") of the City of Saratoga (hereinafter called the "City") in Santa Clara County (hereinafter ~alled the "County"), State of California, intends to held a General Municipal Election for the selection of three members of the Council on Tuesday, March 7, 1978, which is in conformance with the established election date in 1978 for General Law cities; and WHEREAS, a West Valley Joint Community College District Governing Board election will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 1978, and it is the desire of the Council that said General Municipal Election be consolidated with said Governing Board Election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Saratoga as follows: SECTION 1: Said General Municipal Election is hereby called to be held in said City and the same shall be consolidated with the West Valley Joint Community College District Governing Board election to be held on Tuesday, March 7, 1978, at which election shall be submitted to the qualified electors of the City the choice of selecting three members of the City Council; and the election precincts, polling places, and officers ofelection within the City for said General Municipal Election hereby called shall be the same as those selected and designated by the County Superintendent of Schools for said Governing Board Election and setforth or to be setforth in the Notice of Election Officers and Polling Places for said Governing Board Election published or to be published ~ythe CityClerkofthe City of Saratoga, asrec3~redbylaw, to which notice reference is hereby specifically made for a designation of the precincts, polling places and election officers of the General Municipal Election hereby called. Only qualified voters of the City shall be permitted to vote at said General Municipal Election. SECTION 2: The County Superintendent of Schools is hereby requested to order the consolidation of said General Municipal Election with said Governing Board Election to be held on Tuesday, March 7, 1978, insofar as the City is concerned, and to futher provide that within the territory affected by said order of consolidation, to wit, the City, the election precincts, polling places and votingboothsshall in every case be the same and there shall be only one set of election officers in each of said precincts. The names of candidates for election to the three City Council seats shall be setforth in each form of ballot to.be used at said election insofar as the same is held within the City. The officerconductinqthe election is further requested., (i) to setforth on all sample ballots relating to said consolidated elections, to be mailed to the qualified electors of the City, the list of candidates for 'the Council seats along with the Statement of Qualifications submitted, (ii) to provide absent voter ballots for said Governing Board Election and said General Municipal Election consolidated therewith for use by qualified electors of the City who are entitled. thereto, in the manner provided by law. SECTION 3: The County Registrar of Voters is hereb~ further authorized. to canvass, or cause to be canvassed, as provided by law, the returns of said General Municipal Election with respect to the votes cast for said officers and to certify such canvass of the vote to the Council. At the next regular meeting of Council eccurring after the returns of said Special Municipal Election have been canvassed and the certification of results thereof presented to the Council, or at a special meeting called thereafter for such purpose, the Council of the City of Saratoga shall cause to be spread upon its minutes a statement of the results of said General Municipal Election as ascertained by said canvass. SECTION 5: The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to certify to the due adoption of this resolution and to transmit a copy hereof so certified to County Superintendent of Schools and to file a copy hereof so certified with the Registrar of Voters of the County. The above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularly passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Saratoga at a regular meeting held on the 7 th of December, 1977, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Kraus, Corr, Brigham, & Matteoni NOES: None ABSENT: Mayor Bridges MAyOR~R0/ TEMPORE ATTEST: CITY
