HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 851 RESOLUTION NO. 851 A Resolution of the City Council of the City ~.f S.arato~a' Co..m/n..e.n.~in.g.. cole Bridges WHEREAS, Cole Bridges has recently culminated ten years of dedicated service to the Saratoga Community which began with his appointment as a founding member of the Parks and Recreation Commission in August 1968, followed by his election to the City Council in April 1970 and his re- election to the Council for a second term four years later; and WHEREAS, Cole has taken an active leadership role in all his endeavors in City government, having first been elected Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission in September 1969, Vice-Mayor of the City Council in March 1974, and Mayor in December 1974 until the end of his term of office in March 1978; and WHEREAS, his service as Chairman of the Santa Clara County Transpor- tation Commission for three consecutive years, President of the Inter-City Council of Mayors in 1977-78, and member of the Board of Directors of Sanitation District #4 during his tenure as Mayor, cast him in a key role and enhanced the City of Saratoga's influence in intergovernmental affairs; and WHEREAS, Mayor Bridges has been resolutely dedicated to the preservation of the uniqueness of the Saratoga environment, and most notably journeyed to meet the Governor to forcefully present the City's concern with the planned construction of a stadium at the Community College; and WHEREAS, above all, Cole has impressed all of us who have come to know him with his deep concern for people, his willingness to allow a complete airing of all viewpoints on any issue, his impartiality, his patience, and his profound sense of fairness. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saratoga does hereby thank Cole Bridges for his untiring efforts over the years on behalf of all of us, and in recognition of all that he has done does hereby determine that this Resolution has been perused by each one of us and does require an environmental impact report prior to final action, and asks Mayor Bridges to deposit a sum in the amount of two times his annual salary as City Councilman for the last eight years with the Planning Depart- ment, forthwith. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular City Council meeting held on the 5th day of April, 1978, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Kalb, Matteoni, Callon, Krau, & Celt ....... /// '~OES: Mcee
