HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 903 RESOLUTION NO. 903 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA OPPOSING THE MUNICIPAL COURT CONSOLIDATION IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY AND THE IMPLEMENTATION PLAN BY THE COURT WHEREAS, the consolidation of the municipal court was adopted by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors without notice or consulation with the City of Saratoga; and WHEREAS, the consolidation was adopted without an in-depth study of the fiscal impact of such consolidation; and WHEREAS, the consolidation was adopted without concern for the convenience of the West Valley citizenS, and in particular, the citizens of Saratoga; and WHEREAS consolidation frustrates the very purpose of originally establishing municipal districts for the benefit and service to the citizens in the immediate area; and WHEREAS, the consolidation eliminates judicial districts which removes local control of judges; and WHEREAS, the implementation plan has not addressed the victim/ witness concerns or needs; and WHEREAS, the implementation creates coordination and communication problems with the District Attorney's Office because of the use of several different courts; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Saratoga that it opposes the consolidation of the municipal courts in Santa Clara County; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Saratoga that it opposes any implementation plan by the court that would remove from the West Valley Court any of its present judicial responsibilities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor be authorized to execute this resolution on behalf of the City of Saratoga.
