HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 922 RESOLUTION 922 A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING NOVEMBER 22 THROUGH DECEMBER 25, 1979, AS ALCOHOLISM ACTION MONTH WHEREAS, Alcoholism has been recognized as a complex, progressive disease by the American Medical Association since 1956; and WHEREAS, this disease interferes with the health, social and economic functioning of the affected individual, family and community, and may result in physical incapacity, permanent mental and emotional damage and/or premature death; and WHEREAS, it is estimated that one out of every ten people are alcoholic and three to four people are directly affected by an alcoholic, it is further estimated that in Santa Clara County one hundred twenty thousand (120,000) people are alcoholic and four hun- dred eighty thousand (480,000) to six hundred thousand (600,000) significant others are directly affected by Alcoholism; and WHEREAS, this year has been pronounced the Year of the Child; and WHEREAS, an estimated eighty percent of the children from alcoholic homes will become or marry alcoholics and/or continue to be affected directly during their adult lives by Alcoholism; and WHEREAS, efforts aimed at high risk groups, early detection, education, research, and quality treatment facilities are the greatest forces operating today for the reduction of Alcoholism, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga does hereby recognize November Twenty-Second through December Twenty-Fifth, Nineteen Hundred and Seventy-Nine as ALCOHOLIs:r'i ACTION MONTH and endorses the theme ALCOHOLISM--THE FM1ILY DISEASE with particular attention on the child, The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Saratoga held on the 7th day of November, 1979, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Karb, Matteonl, Callon, Kraul & Corr liD NOES: ABSENT: 1*101 /:' I( i . .;Ii,/,I'~III,' ¡ ".)"'/)·1"·" ,,,~,.f \f'>"'", f..." ,,"~II'" i MAYOR
