RESOLUTION NO. 940
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING RINA FANTINO
WHEREAS, Rina Fantino was born in 1887 near Torino, Italy, and in 1901
she came to the united States; and
WHEREAS, Rina, with her husband Mario, moved to Saratoga in the 1930's
and operated a vegetable business; and
WHEREAS, the Fantinos, in approximately 1940, built Mario's Delicatessen,
a grocery and delicatessen, on Big Basin Way; and
WHEREAS, Rina, after her husband died, ran Mario's by herself for over
thirty years; and
WHEREAS, through the store Rina had contact with many children and was
very interested in activities for children and youth, and
WHEREAS, Rina Fantino died in 1973 and made the Saratoga Youth Center one
of the beneficiaries of her will, and
WHEREAS, during the last seven years the estate of Rina Fantino has
donated over $20,000 to the Saratoga Youth Center for youth activitiesi
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga
acknowledges the gift from the estate of Rina Fantino and extends thanks on
behalf of the community for the generosity shown with the donation to the Saratoga
Community (Youth) Center.
The above and foregoing resolution was adopted by the City Council of the
City of Saratoga at a regular meeting held on the 6th day of February, 1980,
by the following vote:
