RESOLUTION NO. 942
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA
COMMENDING JACKIE WELCH
SARATOGA 1979 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
--
WHEREAS, the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce performs an annual
intensive search to determine, from an impressive list of out-
standing nominees, the one citizen to be selected as Saratoga
Citizen of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Citizen of the Year Award is accorded the
individual who exemplifies the spirit of selfless giving, and is
one who offers an ongoing committment of time, energy and activity
in seeking to make this a better community for all; and
WHEREAS, Jackie Welch has continuously met the exacting tests
for receipt of this honor since first coming to Saratoga in 1949;
and
~mEREAS, Jackie has been a founding or charter member of
several important organizations which have contributed to Saratoga
such as the Community Garden, Hakone Gardens Japanese Cultural Society,
and the Saratoga-Los Gatos Symphony; and
WHEPEAS, Jackie has communicated community events to fellow
Saratogans, as reporter for the Los Gatos TiMes Observer for ten
years, specializing in the writing of feature stories and news
about people and events in Saratoga; and
WHEREAS, Jackie has devoted untold hours volunteering as a
member of a co~ittee working to improve Saratoga or commemorating
special events suchæ the Saratoga Youth Center, Saratoga Blossom
Festival, \-¡here she served as Chairman, Montalvo Summer Husic
Festival Committee, Saratoga Bicentennial Committee; and

WHEREAS, Jackie has contributed her writing skills to chronicling
the history of Saratoga events since the early 1960's so that tomorrow
we might all appreciate Saratoga's Modern History;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Saratoga does hereby extend its congratulations to Jackie Welch
for being named
"1979 SARATOGA CITIZEN OF THE YEAR"
and officially thanks her for her many fine contributions to the
community since 1949, and the involvements she is likely to undertake
in the future.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Saratoga
held on February 20
, 1980, by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen Kraus, Corr, Matteoni and Callon
