RESOLUTIDN PROCLAIMING COMMUNITY AWARENESS DAY
WHEREAS, Community Volunteer Services to Agnews, Inc. is
sponsoring a "Con~unity Awareness Day" Sunday, May 23, 1982 to
raise funds for the residents of Agnews, primarily for Special
Olylnpic activities; and
WHEREAS, Agnews State Hospital and Residential Facility has
been a viable part of the Santa Clara Valley since the 1800's; and
WHEREAS,Since that time, the surrounding countryside has
changed from flowering orchards and agriculture to expressways and
business parks; and
WHEREAS, Agnews has grown with the times and changed from a
state hospital for the mentally ill to a developmental training
center and residential facility for the developmentally disabled or
mentally retarded; and
WHEREAS, a full range of training and professional services is
provided to the nearly 1100 residents of Agnews;
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clara is extremely proud of the
quality services and care that are provided;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Sunday, May 23, 1982, is
hereby proclaimed to be
"COMMUNITY AWARENESS DAY"
in Saratoga, and we congratulate the Agnews facility volunteers,
parents and friends and staff for their dedication and service to
the developmentally disabled.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the 21st day of April ,
