HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1083 RESOLUTION NO. 1083 A RESOLUTION RELATIVE TO "VICTIHS RIGHTS WEEK" APRIL 18-24, 1982 WHEREAS, The public has an obligation to recognize the plight of crime victims and witnesses; and WHEREAS, It is the duty of all citizens and institutions to play positive roles in improving the plight of victims of violent crime and their survivors, and to resotre effectiveness to the administration of criminal justice; and WHEREAS, It is a fact that the majority of victims of violent crimes are women and children assaulted by a person they love and in the privacy of their own home; and WHEREAS, Better reporting of crime and greater willingness of persons to testify are essential to the control of crime and the improvement of justice; and WHEREAS, Creating a better understanding of the rights of crime victims and witnesses and the nature of our criminal justice system will help to achieve the goals of crime reduction and the restoration of fairness and effectiveness to the administration of criminal justice; NOW, THEREFORE, BE tT RESOLVED that we take this opportunity to officially acknowledge April 18-24, 1982, as "Victims Rights Week," and urge the community to actively support its violence prevention programs and assistance to victims. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Saratoga City Council on the 21st day of .April , with Councilmembers Callon, Jensen and Watson voting yes, Councilmember Clevenger abstaining, and Councilmember ~/s-2--,~-Y---~ Mallory absent.
