WHEREAS, In recognition of May as National 1~ntal Health ~,~nth;
and
~1~l~JS, The interrelationship of friendship and physical and mental
health is one of the most important aspects of every person' s overall well
being; and
WHEREAS, Ihe Califoro~8 State DeparUnent of t.~ntal Health, Mental
Health Promotion Branch, has initiated a cc~mmity-based, multi-media public
education project, and
~, The theme of this project is FRIENDS CAN BE GOOD MEDICINE;
and
W~/RFAS, Activities for this project will take place in May, 1982;
and
~REAS, The goals of this public cormm~Lication project are for the
general public in the State of California to have (1) an increased recognition
of the health and mental health implications of personal relationships; in-
cluding greater life expectancy ~md decreased incidences of physical and
n~mtal disorders; (2) an increased factual knowledge of the interactive
nature of stress and social support; (3) increased attitod~nal acceptance
of the inpact of personal lifestyle on health maintenance; and (4) increased
behavioral intentions with respect to personal relationships: conmitment,
time devoted to relationships,/nitiation of ne~ .relationships, etc.
NOW, THEREPDRE, BE IT RFSOL~ that the month of May 1982 is
proc!ai~ed as
CAN BE GOOD MEDICINE MONTH
a~d all =citizens are urged to participate in and support activities related to
conmmity education, cnmmmity outreach, and media coverage that will take
place during this period.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Saratoga City Cotmcil on the 19th day of May, 1982 _ ..,
