~ING SHDKE EETECIDR AWARENESB WEEK
WHEREAS, many citizens nationwide suffer death and injuries within
their dwellings as a result of fire and a c~0mron belief that fires only happen
to scmeone else, and
WHF~Ag, studies ha~e shown that the numbers of such deaths and
injuries can be greatly reduced when such dwellings are equipped with smoke
detector systems and when the public becc~es better informed, and
WHEREAS, the U. S. Fire Administration has launched a nationwide
smoke detector awareness can~aign to encourage the approximately 50% of the
U. S. population not yet protected by smoke detectors to purchase theft, and
WHEREAS, the week of October 9th has been desi_c~ated National Fire
Prevention Week to remind everyone of the in~o_rtance of fire safety, and
WHEREAS, the fire Safety of residents within the City of Saratoga is
of paramount importance to the City Council and to the Central Fire Protection
Dis trict,
NC~, THEREFORE, BE IT FESOLVED, that the City Council of the City
of Saratoga does hereby proclaim the week of October 3rd through October
1982 to be
SMOKE EETECIOR ;~qARE~ESS WEEK
to enhance the awareness cf Saratoga residents regarding the benefits of
properly installed and maintained smoke detector systems, and of the program
of the Central Fire Protection District to install Eke detectors for
residents unable to do so for themselves.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Saratoga City Council on the 6th day of Oct0be~, ]982 ,
by unanimous vote:
