RESOLUTION bXD. 2096
CDb~NDING CAPTAIN JOPA~ IP~qIN OF THE SARATOGA FIRE DISTRICT
WHEREAS, Captain John Irwin retired from the Saratoga Fire District on
September 1, 1983, after almost th/rty years of participation in firefighting
in the City of Saratoga, and
WHEREAS, Captain Irwin has ~Drked for his country as well as his ccmmunity
in many ways, including service in the Navy for two years as a Machinist
Mate and twenty-three years as an Engineering Technician at the Ames Research
Laboratory, ar~
WHEREAS, Captain Irwin has constantly striven to improve his professional
skills and knowledge through conloleting n~_rous courses at various insti-
tutions, including fire science, first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation,
~ classes in supervisory skills, hazardous materials, automobile victim
" extrication, and survival of natural disasters, and he has proven his exper-
tise by qualifying as a Master Instructor in Fire Apparatus and EquiFment
with the California Fire Academy, and
WHEREAS, his service to the Saratoga Fire District began with his acting
as a volunteer in 1954 and proceeding through the ranks to Engineer, Batta-
lion Chief, Firefighter-Engineer, and finally Captain and Training Officer,
WHEREAS, the City of Saratoga appreciates his dedication and loyalty in
a challenging and hazardous profession.

is hereby ~ed and heartily thanked for his many years of service to
Saratoga. The City Council congratulates him on his retirement and wishes
him much enjoyment in the years ahead with his gardening, his arts and
crafts, and his family.
The akDve and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting
of tPe Saratoga City Council on the 5th day of October by unanimDus vote.
