PROCLAIMING FLAG DAY
WHEREAS, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 in memory of the day in 1977
when the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the
official flag of the United States, and
WHEREAS, Flag Day has been a national celebration since 1916 when
President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed it to be an annual national
WHEREAS, the Association of the United States Anny has asked that
Saratoga declare June 14 as Flag Day.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that June 14 is hereby proclaimed as
FLAG DAY
and all Saratogans are urged to reaffirm their patriotisn and allegiance
to the flag of the United States 'by displaying the flag prominently
on their homes, businesses, and on all public buildings.
The stDve and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the 16th day of May by
the follc~ing vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Clevenger, Mallory and Mayor MDyles
NCES: None
ABSENT: Councils Callon and Fanelli
ABSTAIN: None
