WHEREAS, Chris Cavanaugh has distinguished himself nationally and inter-
nationally in the sport of ~qir~, and
WHEREAS, this young graduate of Lynbrook High School has now reached a
pinnacle of his s~i~ career by winning a gold medal as a ~ of
the 4 x 100 freestyle relay team at the 1984 Olympic Games, and
WHEREAS, Chris has also performed successfully in recent years in' the
Pan-Pacific Games and the Pan-American Games, and
WHEREAS, Chris won the Olympia Award given by the Southland Corporation
in recognition of academic and athletic achieverents, an award for which
-he was nominated by his' fellow athletes, and
WHEREAS, for the last four ye~__rs Chris has been ranked in the top four
or above in freestyle ~imning cumgetition world-wide, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saratoga is most pleased to
recognize such outstanding dedication and achievement over a period of
years as a source of great pride to Saratoga as well as to the athlete
himself.
NOW, THEREFURE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Saratoga congratulates
CHRIS CAVANAUGH
on his Olympic gold medal and wishes him the best of luck in the future,
both in athletics and in his'other fields of endeavor.
