HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2209 RESOLUTION NO. 2209 ~ING THE I.~AGUE OF WO~EN VOTERS OF LOS GATOS-SARATOGA WHEREAS, the League of Wc~en Voters of the United States was founded on February 14, 1920, and the League has existed as a Los Gatos-Saratoga group sinee 1964, and WHEREAS, the League' s basic purposes are to foster citizen involvement and develop citizen leaders; to help people understand public issues and how government works; to prceote discussion of government policies; and to influence govezrnnent policy, and WHEREAS, citizen education and involvement are vital to Saratoga, which incorporated as a city in order to retain' its individual identity, and which can continue to exist as a flexible, responsive organization only as long as its citizens participate actively and knc~ledgeably, and WHEREAS, although the League is best kncwn for its voter service activities frcrn the local to the national level, it is a true grass-roots organization open to both men and wcmen, and its positions are arrived at only after thorough research, study and' .intensive discussions which lead to member consensus, and WHEREAS, this kind of study has helped Saratoga citizens beccme better informed on such issues as Measure G, solid waste managerent, law enforcement services, school curricu]a, the Highway 85 corridor, second units, use of surplus school land and facilities, ~cial develoFment, needs of senior citizens, hazardous materials, and child care. NC~q, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saratoga ccr~nends THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF LOS GATOS-SARA~ for over twenty years of non-partisan service to the people of Saratoga and congratulates the League on the 65th anniversary of the national organization. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Saratoga.
