HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2223 RESOILTION NO. 2223 RESOLUTICN OF THE CITY OOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARAIO6A D~ PFAf~ EDUCATICN WEEK WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saratoga recognizes that we live in a unique time in history where the threat of war and violence can lead to the possibility of the end of all life through a nuclear catastrophe, and WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of all citizens of a democracy to educate themselves. and take part in'the decisions which affect their'own lives and the lives of their families, and WHEREAS, the times denand that local citizens come together to share and exchange ideas on hcx~ the individual and the ccnxnunity can have an effect on the situation in the world today, and WHEREAS, we realize that there are differences existing between us as human beings, and while we uphold and accept cur diversity, we take a stand for the cooperation of all races, of all religions, of all nations, and of all people directed toaufd one ccnmon survival, and WHEREAS, we support the efforts of our cfxmunity, our nation and inter- national groups to work together tfxe~ds world peace, and WHEREAS, we recognize that education is a vital step tcward peace and that it' is' through the efforts of our schools, ccnmunity and religious organizations that awareness of. the crisis in the world today is created and new possibilities are-discovered. ~K)W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLd, that the City Council'of the Ciy of Saratoga designates the week of May 12 through May 19, 1985~ as 'qPeace Educe~_tion Week,"' a time for the whole ~ity to focus on .the problems, the possibilities and how, working together, we can make a difference, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council urges all citizens of Saraboga to make a major part of their activities the educating of themselves and others to seek creative and practical solutions that would build a future of peace for the entire planet. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the' 3rd day of April', 1985, by the follc~ing vote: AYES: Councilmenbers Callon, Clevenger, Hlava, FDyles and Mayor Fanelli NOES: None ATfE~T: 0 Mayor
