HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2310 RESOLUTION NO. 2310 C~ING BETTY AND WILLYS PECK AS 1985 CITIZENS OF THE YEAR WHEREAS, Betty and Willys Peck have been named Citizens of the Year by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, and WHEREAS, the Pecks have earned this honor as a couple through their many years of service to the community, and WHEREAS, Betty and Willys have successfully interwoven their vocations and their avocations with their commitment to community involvement in such a way that their personal interests have been of value to thousands of people in Saratoga and beyond, and WHEREAS, these useful activities include, for Betty, many years of elementary and kindergarten teaching; founding the Easterbrook Farm School and the Saratoga Community Garden; and maintaining her home as a place for Halloween spook houses, picnics on the creek, children's art shows, music and drama productions in the outdoor amphitheater, and WHEREAS, some of Willys' pursuits have been working as a journalist and attorney; serving the Santa Clara County Bar Association; acting as president of the Saratoga Historical Foundation for almost twenty years; serving on numerous commissions and charitable boards; serving as president of the Saratoga Drama Group and acting in it; and, with Betty, supporting the founding of the Valley Institute of Theatre Arts, and WHEREAS, although both have received many awards: Betty as Environmentalist of the Year; Willys as recipient of the Byrl R. Salsmen Award, and both as recipients of the Achievers Award from the Pen Women of Santa Clara County, nevertheless it is both fitting and proper that their fellow Saratogans have honored them with one more award through the Chamber of Commerce. NOW, T}t~, BE IT RESOLVED, that BETTY AND WILLYS PECK are hereby commended and heartily thanked for their public spirit and willingness to give time, energy and creativity for the good of all Saratogans. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the 19th day of February, 1986, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Callon, Fanelli, Hlava, Moyles and Mayor Clevenger NOES: None ABSENT: None /s/Martha Clevenger Mayor ATIEST: /s/Grace E.
