RESOLUTION OF ~ME CITY COL~CIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA
CENCEMqING AAUW W~RK
WHEREAS, the ~merican Association of University Wcmen was formed in 1882 by
a group of w~Ten college gradaates to further the advancement of w~nen, to
discharge their responsibilities to society, and to enable college wanen to
continue their own intellectual growth, and
M{ERFAS, AAUW's aims have expanded to include a concern for quality education,
which is attested to by their administration of the largest educational fund
of any American wcmen's organizatiQn, and a concern for human and econcmic
rights for all, and
WHEREAS, the nymTber~ip of AAUW is nc~ made up of 194,000 ~men from all
political parties, all walks of life, and all parts of the country and reaches
out internationally through an organization which has branches throughout
the ~Drld, and
M{EREAS, local wco~n participate in AAUW through the 470-member Los Gatos-
Saratoga branch, which ~has ~s-who are active on school boards, city
councils, city and county ccmmissions and who have been instrumental in the
formation and work of local organizations to serve specific needs in the
NC~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Cbancil that the week of March 2
through March 8 is hereby declared as
in order to recognize the valuable and long-continued contribution which AAUW
has made in the Saratoga area, in California and throughout the world. ~he
City Council of the City of Saratoga wishes to express appreciation for all
that AAUW has done and to ~encoura~e then in their efforts.
Ihe above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting
of the Saratoga City Council held on the 5th day of Martin, 1986, by the
following vote:
AYES: Councils Fanelli, Hlava, Moyles and Mayor Clevenger
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilmember Callon
