HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2407 RESOLUTION NO. 2407 ~ING YOSHI}tIRO UCHIDA WHEREAS, Mr. Yoshihiro Uchida, a resident of the City of Saratoga, has made important contributions to the United States and to the world through judo and his other interests, and WHEREAS, in the course of his work of coaching and promoting judo, he has received awards from many different groups, including the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, from the Japanese Government; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Good Neighbor Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews; a Certificate of Distinguished Academic Achievement from Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at San Jose State University, and a California State Assembly resolution and commendation, and W}tERFAS, since Mr. Uchida organized the first national AAU judo competition in the United States in 1953, he has been a driving force to popularize and systematize judo competition in this country; along the way he has coached the 1964 U.S. Olympic Judo Team, and the teams which he has coached at San Jose State University have won 21 of 22 National Collegiate Judo Championships, and WHEREAS, in addition to being an Associate Professor at San 3ose State University, Mr. Uchida is also a board-certified clinical laboratory bioanalyst and clinical chemist who participates in a number of professional organizations in that field, and WHEREAS, he is a member of many charitable organizations and is active in civic and religous organizations from the local to the national level, such as the United States Chamber of Commerce, National Amateur Athletic Union, Santa Clara County Grand Jury, Japanese American Citizens League, and San Jose Buddhist Church. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of the City of Saratoga hereby ccumends Mr. YOSHIHIRO UCHIDA for his accomplishments on behalf of his sport and his fellow citizens. The residents of this city are proud to claim him as a Saratogan and congratulate him for the nmny honors he has earned over a long period of years. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Saratoga, held on the 4th day of March, 1987, by the following vote: AYES: Councils Anderson, Clevenger, MDyles, Peterson and Mayor Hlava NOES: None ABSENT: None /s/Joyce Hlava Mayor
