Shook is retiring after serving the City of Saratoga for twenty-one years, more than half of its existence as an incorporated City, and WB~aA8, he has given up a great deal for public service, including his hair, much of which he lost when the Troxler nuclear soil compaction gauge was placed next to his office, and W~P~&~, since Bob's regular duties involved managing public works and engineering, he dealt with such significant and often thorny matters as hillside development, Route 85, capital improvements to streets, bridges, and medians, and WHERFaS, his accomplishments include solving drainage problems so that there is now no significant flooding in the City, creation of all the landscaping and lighting districts and all the City public parking districts, undergrounding utilities, and establishment of geologic review for hillside development, and WHEE~aS, in addition to his regular duties, Mr. Shook served at various times as Acting City Manager, Interim City Manager, and Community Development Director, and even ~abored for seven years on the City baseball team, steadfastly covering right field, and WHEPaa%B, throughout his service to the City he has been an example to us all in his cheerful maintenance of a positive attitude under sometimes trying circumstances, and WHEREAS, over the years innumerable staff members have relied on Bob to remember how and why things happened, provide continuity, and place events in perspective, and WHEREAS, although City administration is scarcely imaginable without Bob'$ humorous, easygoing touch, the City staff is comforted by the fact that Bob will remain as a consultant to ease the transition. NOW, THEREFOI~a, BB IT RESOLVED, that ROBERT 8.8HOOK is commended and thanked for his many years of service to the City of Saratoga, and B~ IT F~r~THER RESOLVED, that Bob is hereby officially instructed to relax and enjoy to the fullest his well-deserved retirement. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the Saratoga City Council at a meeting held on the 15th day of March, 1989, by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Mayor ATTEST: Deputy City Clerk
