"1 3- (; Õ CJ COMMENDING MARTHA CLEVENGER WHEREAS, Martha Clevenger has been named 1992 Saratoga citizen of the Year by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, an honor she was accorded for good and sufficient reasons which reflect her commitment to the City of Saratoga, and WHEREAS, Marty may be best known for serving on the Saratoga City Council for a total of three full terms, longer than anyone else in the history of the city, and obtaining more votes than any other candidate in each election she entered, and serving two terms as vice Mayor and two terms as Mayor, and WHEREAS, while on the Council Marty also served as Saratoga's representative on various regional boards, including the West Valley Sanitation District, Santa Clara County Cities Association, Housing and Community Development Council, Intergovernmental council, and several committees of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and WHEREAS, Marty engaged in many other activities on the Council, including proposing the City's wildly successful volunteer program; taking on the establishment of Village Parking District #3, a daunting task which she helped accomplish by the improved relationship with the business community she helped to establish; and twelve years of working to ensure that concerns over Route 85 were addressed--the concerns of individuals, neighborhoods, and the community at large regarding design, soundwall height and other issues, and WHEREAS, Marty also reached beyond the boundaries of Saratoga in working with the Council to create the Japanese sister City program, representing Saratoga on four trips to our sister city and energetically involving herself both in Japanese visits here and in the student exchange program, and WHEREAS, she has done all this while maintaining her unmatched popularity with Saratogans, the reasons for which are clear to anyone who spends any time with Marty--that she has the ability to make anyone feel comfortable, has an unusual empathy with staff members and others with whom she has worked, and, most of all, has a real concern for people. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that MARTHA CLEVENGER is hereby commended and thanked most heartily for her public spirit and willingness to give time, energy and creativity for the good of her community and her fellow Saratogans. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the Saratoga City Council at a meeting held on the 17th day of March, 1993, by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT:
